SEASON’S GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK
On behalf of the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society, I would like to wish all pharmacists a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2018.
2017 has been a year full of celebrations and challenges. We celebrated our 50th anniversary with immense success in all states throughout the year with the theme “My Society My Passion”. The 50th Anniversary’s main event in May was truly memorable for everyone. The coffee table book reminds us of the journey that MPS has gone through for the last 50 years.
I must say our greatest feat this year was bringing pharmacists under one roof, from the public to the private sector, in organising multiple World Pharmacists Day (WPD) celebrations over the course of few months, leading to the finale on 7th October 2017, whereby the official Community Pharmacy logo was proudly launched by the Health Minister in the presence of more than 1000 members of the public. The WPD celebrations were collaborations between MPS, State Health Departments and the Pharmaceutical Services Division, Ministry of Health.
Pharmacists were once again united when we attended the TN50 dialogue with the Director General, Ministry of Health to voice out our genuine concerns, as we make a stand towards the future of our profession for the next 30 years. We shall not compromise on dispensing separation as it will promote medication safety and patient safety.
MPS expects all pharmacists to adhere to Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) at all levels and facets of the healthcare system in Malaysia. Be proud of serving our customers, consumers and patients.
Most importantly this year, we were prominently featured in various forms of media; printed and on-line as well as social media in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin and Tamil. We have more visitors to our MPS website (http://www.mps.org.my) and MPS Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Malaysian-Pharmaceutical-Society-238077942942379/).
MPS is very prominent in public health issues through various strategic collaborations. This include Allied Against Dengue (AAD), Smoking Cessation programme (mQuit) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) programme.
We are also proud of the work of pharmacists in both public and private sectors to continuously educate the public on medicines use and the roles of pharmacists in the country. Subsequently, this has improved the image of the pharmacy profession.
In conclusion, MPS wishes a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday to all as we are closing on 2017 and welcoming 2018. May 2018 bring more success to every pharmacist in Malaysia. Our journey is an endless one and we must make significant progress as a profession as we go along.
As for the community, let the pharmacists serve you with love and care. Your health and safety is our main concern. From Research To Healthcare: Your Pharmacist Is At Your Service.
