A Future-Focused Health & Care System

Event Details

Date: Saturday, 7th April, 2018
Time: 10am to 5pm (registration starts at 9am)
Venue: Connexion @ Nexus, Bangsar South City

BFM Health and Living Live 2018 is all about a future-focused healthcare system. We will be centering our conversations on the health needs of an older and wiser population, as we are inevitably living longer and have better access to information and technology thanks to an improved quality of life.

The Ministry of Health projects that the senior citizen population in the country will reach 5.6 million by 2030. However, a longer lifespan does not automatically translate to an illness-free life. Even as infectious diseases rates continue to go down, non-communicable diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases are on the rise, potentially straining the Malaysian healthcare system.

What are the social, economic and legal implications of growing old in the digital age? And how will technology redefine the doctor-patient relationship - or any relationship at all? Join us as we bring together experts to put the 'care' back in 'healthcare'.

Dear Dania,

Cases of Alzheimer's, diabetes, heart disease and cancer are set to rise dramatically in coming decades, as people live longer.  Are we prepared for the changes needed to handle this?

We have (the) ability to cure illness, but then with illness comes disability. So people are staying alive longer with disability, and they need care. So all that comes at a cost. - Prof Dr Tan Maw Pin

At this year's Health and Living Live, we shine a new light on biological ageing, and how a multi-stakeholder response is needed to address the needs of an ageing population.

Melisa Idris will tackle this issue with geriatrician Prof Dr Tan Maw Pin, gerontologist YM Prof Dr Tengku Aizan Hamid, and former Malaysian Court of Appeal judge and now Malaysian Healthy Ageing Society advisor Dato' Mahadev Shankar.
