MPS need to handle the situation with regards to the New Pharmacy Bill that will be tabled in parliament most probably this year. The governance of MPS and its area committees need to be strengthened by ensuring excellent leadership under pharmacy leaders who can deliver. The area committees need to be upgraded and run as branches. More effort need to be done to increase MPS membership. This will increase MPS's voice to larger decibels. MPS should nurture and mold the future pharmacists and the young pharmacists to meet the ever-changing demand to serve the country and the rakyat. The next Council and area committees should carry out the MPS's strategic plan and the action plan developed in 2017.

Goals of being a MPS Council

  1. Serve the profession by ensuring it becomes mandatory for doctors to provide prescriptions. To roll out a  campaign for mandatory prescriptions for antibiotics and and psychotropic drugs.
  2. Increase membership from the Public sector. Currently MPS has only 5k plus members; the majority being from the private sector. Increasing membership numbers will help give MPS (the voice of the profession) more  credibility when we attend policy making meetings.
  3. Increase MPS press coverage. More coverage in the press will lead to MPS being taken more seriously by its members, by the public and by other health care professionals.
  4. Safeguard the income of pharmacists from all sectors by ensuring decisions affecting pharmacists by the policy makers are thoroughly reviewed. As an active member of the RUUF Task Force, I will work towards the goal of ensuring pharmacists get dispensing rights.
  5. Reducing the price of health supplements sold in Malaysia. Currently, the Malaysian market for Health Supplements is saturated with products that are 3 to 4 times more expensive than prices in other countries. Reducing the cost will not only help pharmacists but also help patients by reducing their out of pocket expenses.
  6. Closing the gap between Area Committees and MPS Central. Currently area committees do not have 1 common representative that can look into the problems they are facing. By joining the MPS council I hope to work on standardization of how Area Committees are run.
