SPEAKER'S PROFILE : ASSOC. PROFESSOR CHEAH PHAIK YEONG
Ethical principles in healthcare, though widely known and understood, are exceptionally perplexing to navigate in today's world. For something that takes a lot of persistence, passion and perseverance to pursue, it comes as no surprise that Associate Professor Cheah Phaik Yeong, whose forte lies with contextualization and realization of these principles, has blossomed.
Based in Bangkok at the Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Programme, Dr. Cheah Phaik Yeong is an Associate Professor at Oxford University, heading the Department of Bioethics and Engagement. Her remit revolves around the identification of ethical issues concerning vulnerable and disadvantaged populations.
To her, bioethics enables researchers and healthcare practitioners alike to see ethical issues in different light, which helps refine collection and translation of clinical evidence, thus improving patient management.
Fascinated with her work? Join us as we delve further into Bioethics at the AYPG Leadership Summit 2017 on 11th - 13th November 2017!

By Hah Hui Ling
Most of us are familiar with measuring blood pressure in the brachial artery of the arm. But have we ever stopped to consider that there are patients who may not be able to measure their blood pressure in both of their arms? Once, I was requested to measure blood pressure in someone's leg. Upon further asking, I was told that he had perform vascular accesses surgery on both his arms, which is a preparatory procedure for dialysis, performed weeks to months before one can proceed with dialysis. This left him no choice but to measure blood pressure in the leg. This alternative way of blood pressure measurement has lead me to find out more.

MY JOURNEY IN SEARCH OF VETERINARY PHARMACY
By Harpreet Kaur
I was moonlighting as a locum pharmacist once upon a time, when I received a patient of the furry kind and despite my vast knowledge of dogs (I had 18 rescued dogs at one point in my life), I could not assist the patient and had him referred to a vet.
This encounter prompted me to do some research on veterinary pharmacy in Malaysia and to check if I could enroll in some course to enhance my knowledge. However, I was unable to find much info of Malaysian pharmacist specializing in this field or courses that a pharmacist could attend to enhance their skills or knowledge in veterinary care.

ONE SNAKE OR TWO? THE SYMBOLS OF MEDICINE
By Tan Jit Kent
Picture the Caduceus - two serpents entwined around each other, encircling a slender staff, near the tip of which a pair of feathered wings sprout. We often associate this imagery with the field of healthcare and medicine. And why shouldn't we? The Caduceus is often used as an element in the design of insignia, emblems and crests of some healthcare and medical organisations. Plus, it looks a whole lot like the Rod of Aesculapius ? the more politically correct symbol of healthcare and medicine.
