by Hah Hui Ling

Ever heard of the 5-second rule? It's a simple, straight forward rule which states that if you dropped a piece of food onto the ground, and picked it up within 5 seconds, you're safe to eat it, meaning, no bacteria or virus from the floor would have got stuck on it. In later developments of the rule, a small, new detail has been added to it. The revised rule says, not only do you have to retrieve the food within 5 seconds, you will have to say "5-seconds rule!" before putting it into your mouth. Sounds absurd?

MALAYSIAN COMMUNITY PHARMACY BUSINESS FORUM 2.0

Competition drives even a branded biz out of business, a strong brand in Malaysia but cannot survive in Indonesia. http://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Indonesia-s-7-Eleven-operator-to-shut-all-stores

In 7-11 Australia even operates petrol kiosks and is Australia's biggest petrol and convenience retailer with some 620 stores, including 450 franchises. But in a 2015 news it was reported that "in their joint investigation, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Four Corners programme and Fairfax Media said they had "uncovered evidence of collusion between some of the owners at hundreds of (7-Eleven ) across multiple states". The founder and chairman resigned because of this! http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-34398959

Business is tough even to the successful ones which spends million to stay alive.

What chance has IPs or CPs in general stay afloat and succeed? Pharmacy is in healthcare sector ever in demand especially in progressive economies but also becoming more competitive with new players; which business is not nowadays or even with good paying jobs!

Pharmacists must have better understanding of changing trend to make themselves relevant and succeed professionally. Pharmacists are generally trained as a professional but not business-minded to manage pharmacy business successfully, other than learning on-the-job.

It's ashamed we don't see pharmacy as a legally protected franchise of pharmacists. Managing it as biz entity is risky as business minded investors are aflushed with funds to muscle in to compete as we have already seen.

Apart from business knowledge, providing personalised service with passion and commitment can help to protect the business. Of course we know to succeed in anything means hard work, long hours and not forgetting being innovative and sensitive to changing needs and trend.

The coming Forum on CP Biz for just RM15 can be stimulating and motivating for those who can make it.
