CORPORATISED STRUCTURE FOR PHARMACIES?

Like it or not pharmacies in Malaysia and I believe elsewhere are being managed under corporatised structure for economic of scale, organised management and efficiency. IPs have reasons to be concerned with such inevitable development and should organise themselves as such to benefit from such structure and remain independent to serve the people on a personal basis closer to the community as what pharmacists are trained to do. They must not feel intimidated by such announcement as others have done but failed to take off as planned due to complexity of managing a successful profitable pharmacy.

See the article for more information: http://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2017/04/17/tieup-with-angkasa-to-boost-bioalphas-domestic-earnings/

But we have to admit managing an IP is hardwork and long hours but has the invaluable advantage of being own boss, able to make fast independent decision and be rewarded for personal effort. Days are over of guaranteed success if you don't personally manage your pharmacy professionally as with any business today, even a clinic. Important thing is keep abreast with latest information, development and sharing information between colleagues, working together.

Many may feel participating in MPS activities is costly but it provides good platform and opportunity to reach out to professional colleagues. Do join in the MPS 50th Anniversary Seminar and Celebration. It is an investment for your profession's future as the Society gets stronger support and attracts willing people coming forward to provide broader leadership at all levels, in Area Committees, working together reaching out to communities who will further appreciate pharmacists and create demand that is large enough for everyone to share and benefit. Pharmacy is not a lone business/practice but an important healthcare institution that will always be in demand but only for those who actively engage in and not for those doing it just because you are a pharmacist.

Success is pharmacist + active management!

Hope to see more joining in the greatest show that MPS ever held but it can only be successful if pharmacists themselves want to be visible and showcase our pride and unity. Sadly, to date we have less than 300 registered for the seminar and dinner out of 10,000 registered pharmacists in the country for such an exclusive event that so many including from Area Committees have spent time, enthusiasm and effort organising but only to see lukewarm respond so far. Hopefully typical of Malaysians, more will enrol in the coming weeks. You will not regret participating as there are many special events in store for you. Visit MPS website for more info.

Look out for special offer till month end. Do register early to facilitate management. The profession cannot thrive by itself unless pharmacists are determined to make it into a great profession that we all can feel proud of. Let us worked hard to protect our franchise which no one can practice except we as pharmacists!

Cheers to all, Happy 50th Anniversary to MPS.

John Chang

AYPG MEMBERS

The Asian Young Pharmacist Group (AYPG) is a coalition representing young pharmacists from countries throughout Asia.

It was originally conceived in 2012 and officially formed in 2013 during the inaugural Asian Young Pharmacist Forum held in Taipei with 6 members representing the young pharmacist groups from Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines, Japan, Indonesia and South Korea. The AYPG has grown considerably since then, with the addition of Singapore and Cambodia while Thailand and Hong Kong are currently in the process of joining the coalition.

The objectives of the AYPG include:

  1. the development and training of young pharmacists throughout the Asian region,
  2. improving public awareness on the roles and contribution of pharmacists,
  3. championing public health and engagement activities by young pharmacists.

Come join us for an enlightening series of dialogues, workshops, and of course, the opportunity to network with promising young pharmacists from these countries
