KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society (MPS) has won the bid to host the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations’ (FAPA) congress from Oct 9 to 12 Oct 2014 here.
MPS President Datuk Nancy Ho said the organizers have made an ideal choice of venue, given that this year is Visit Malaysia Year (VMY), making the country a hotspot for tourist arrivals.
According to her, the Congress with the theme Expanding Pharmacist Role in Wellness and Sustainable Health is expected to have 1200 participants from 17 countries. Fifty-one high-powered scientists.
Ho, who is FAPA Congress Organizing Chairperson, said the event is supported by the State Government, Federal and State Ministries of Tourism, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MYCEB), Sabah Tourism Board (STB), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK).
“Sabah is preferred MCE destination and Kota Kinabalu has been placed 6th among the top ten favourite cities in Asia according to TripAdvisor survey.
“This status is a result of hard work put in by the State Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment and many tourism industry players,’ she said during the recent site visit of the FAPA Bureau members.
Ho said the visiting delegation gave the ‘thumbs-up’ to State leaders for their tremendous efforts to create a tourist-friendly city which a both live-able and visitable.
They had a dinner meeting with the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Pang Yuk Ming.
Briefing him, Ho said 51 high-powered scientist are scheduled to deliver quality scientific paper.
